So it finally happened – you’ve chosen a breed, found a decent dog breeder, waited patiently for the litter from a high-quality union! The last thing left is to choose a puppy! Trust your dog breeder in this matter – he’s more competent in this field, but he’ll need your help as well. You should honestly tell what level of dog do you need! Of course you had plenty of time to think it over and you decided that you want your dog to be:
-
SHOW - CLASS DOG
Different puppies come from the same parents. Of course we, dog breeders, desire to get only the future champions. We are trying really hard. We are hoping, but...it happens very seldom that all the dogs are good for shows! You shouldn’t blame the owner that there are puppies with some peculiarities of exterior, without breeding admission, in his litter. It’s much more worrying if a bitch brought, for example, 5 puppies and they all are good for breeding. Because the THAI RIDGEBACK DOG bitches are quite polycarpic – 7-9 puppies is normal for them. The question is – where are “all those” not suitable?
Usually, show-class puppies go to the professional dog breeders or stay in the cannel. You will be very lucky if you have a chance to purchase a high-class dog. More likely that you’ll have to wait for your turn for a long time. If you really intend to have a high-class dog – your patience will be a confirmation of your serious intentions towards your breeder.

BREEDING-CLASS DOG
These are puppies, less perfect in their exterior in comparison to their show-mates. They are pedigree pets, inferior to the show-puppies in some slight exterior details. Their price is usually lower, nevertheless they can take part in dog shows and breeding. They are not large stars but small and bright ones, because their pedigree is as interesting as of the show-puppies. And under the condition of skilful choosing of show and breeding career, you can get significant results – such as titles and high-quality puppies!

PET-CLASS DOG
These are puppies, whose exterior has considerable defects and they are not allowed for taking part in shows and breeding. Their pedigree is as outstanding as of their brothers’ and they posses all the distinctive features of the breed. But those puppies have a mark in their pedigree “not for breeding”. They are usually sold to people who are not interested in exposing their dogs at the shows or mating them. They just want to have an animal companion of this breed.
All the above mentioned groups, despite of the quality are – PEDIGREE! The evidence of this is the document called pedigree. It doesn’t share the titles of parents with your dog, but doesn’t deprive it of the chance to earn the titles of its own, except the dogs who have a pedigree marked “not for breeding”.
An honest breeder will never sell a sick puppy! Or a puppy with some hidden defects (for example weak psycho). In order to secure the breeder and the future dog owner, a sale contract is usually signed. It contains all the detailed information about the puppy and the rights and duties of both sides as well.
Now lets talk about the place where the puppies are growing. It must be clean (don’t be confused if there is a peculiar smell – that’s because puppies do their business after each feed, as well as before and after sleep). But there mustn’t be any stink or flies all around!
Puppies should have healthy skin and hair, clean eyes without any signs of inflammation. Normal stool is also i sign of health! The mother of puppies should look well-groomed as well. But it won’t be glad of your visit and it will probably show all the “benefits” of its behavior. Anyway you should estimate the condition of the mother correctly because it’s the guarantee of the puppies’ health. By the way, you can easily estimate the puppy’s health not only by the temperature of its nose. It must be well-fed, without any sticking out ribs! Small Thai ridgeback dogs look like Sharpeis! They are all covered with folds and look really cute.
The most important thing – you should get pleasant impression of the dog breeder, puppies and their mom. And you shoul feel like you are eager to get a dog in that home. Remember that you’ll have to communicate with your breeder for many years...
